James provides a variety of topics that will not only entertain, but provide an insightful look at what we, as EMS professionals, do daily.  He also provides education on topics that are rarely discussed or that are not regularly focused on.  In addition, he is open to ideas or suggestions about topics and is willing to develop a presentation suited for your unique needs.

  • This session identifes types of cancer, discusses its treatment, and what pre-hospital providers may encounter.

"Big and Small, We Haul 'Em All"
  • This session will identify the health effects of morbid obesity, treatments for obesity, pre-hospital considerations, and care of the morbidly obese.





"Can We Learn From Humor?"
  • A look at the use of humor in EMS and the lessons that can be learned from each humorous encounter.



"Coping When It Doesn't Work"
  • A look into survival statistics from medical and traumatic arrests, research on treatment practices, and how to grieve and deal with stress in a healthy manner.

"Do We Really Need Customer Service?"
  • This session identifies the need for customer service in EMS, describes a means for planning and implementing a customer service program, and provides tips for customer service improvement and tracking its effectiveness.





"I Need a Drink and Don't Have the Good Stuff"
  • A look into alcoholism and different substances that may be used in place of the "good stuff" that may lead to deadly consequences.

"I'm Safe, Are They?"
  • This session explores the issue of patient safety in pre-hospital care, identifies potential patient safety issues, and describes how services can reduce harm from reaching their patients.

"More Than Just a Nosebleed"
  • This session identifies the types and causes of epistaxis and treatments that are available in the pre-hospital and emergency department setting.





"My Breath is Barely There!"
  • This session will educate attendees about asthma, which includes triggers, pathophysiology, and treatments during a crisis.




"Its Not Rotten Eggs Your Smelling"
  • A look into the issues pre-hospital providers may face when dealing with hydrogen sulfide toxicity and exposures.  Attendees will be able to identify sources of hydrogen sulfide, response safety, the health effects of exposure, and treatments.

"The Big One's Here: Taking Care of MIne and Yours"
  • A public safety personnel, we are charged with preparing and protecting the public from major disaster.  However, we often do not heed our own advice.  This session will identify how to prepare ourselves and our family for a disaster so we can continue to operate while minimizing our worry for our family's well being.

"The Fifth Vital Sign"

  • This session explores the causes of pain, how to assess pain, and identify common and alternative pain management techniques and practices.




"The Geriatric Population and It's Impact on Fire and EMS"
  • The geriatric population in a rapidly growing demographic in the United States and across the globe.  This session will describe the effects of aging on the human body, pre-hospital concerns, and identifies means to improve geriatric wellness and safety in your community.

"When Pepto Doesn't Work"
  • This session explores the causes of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.  Attendees will also be able to identify the pathophysiology of each condition, its health effects, and available pre-hopsital treatments.

"The Silence Underneath"
  • Although rare, compartment and crush syndrome does occur in the trauma patients that EMS cares for.  This informative session will cover both syndromes and provide the attendee with information on preventative and treatment measures that should be taken.






"An Approach to Supervisor Discipline"
  • Discipline is an onerous task that every supervisor must undertake.  This session explores how discipline can be a valuable tool, when used appropriately, to improve troubled employees.


"To Be or Not To Be"
  • Supervisors must wear many hats, but sometimes the line between being a leader and a manager can quickly become blurred.  When this occurs, it can damage both company and department operations.  This session explores the differences between the two, the qualities both must possess, and how the two can work hand and hand.

  • In order to succeed in building something great, it must be built on a solid platform.  When a platform is built, it is often built on well rounded and strong pillars.  This session explores how to utilize tested pillars of leadership to improve your leadership and your department.

"Where Are We Going?"
  • EMS is growing as a profession and numerous organizations have produced documents that are paving the way.  These documents include the National Education Standards, National Scope of Practice, the EMS Agenda for the Future, and even the Affordable Care Act.  This interactive session and informative session explains their impact and what changes are coming.

  • Over the counter drug abuse and overdose in pediatrics has been on the rise for over ten years.  This session explores the signs, symptoms, side effects, and treatments for pediatric OTC toxicity

"What Just Happened? - Calls You Can't Forget"
  • ​What makes the calls we like to talk about so interesting?  We each remember certain calls that were either weird, traumatic, or fun.  This session will explore what characteristics an "EMS Story" contains and James will share with you memorable calls that he and his crews have run on over the years and the lessons learned.
"Into the Sunset You Ride"
  • We all reach a point in our career that we will have to hang up the helmet or stethoscope for good.  This session will offer insight into what one can expect upon retirement as well as how to plan for it.
"You Can't Tweet the Patient"
  • Our profession contains a mixture of generations amongst the providers in the field.  This session will explore the differences between the generations and offer tips on how to work best and get the most out of the up and coming providers.
"If It Happened Today........."
  • Have you ever wondered if we would have made a difference in the past?  This session looks at famous traumatic deaths and asks the question,"If we had a time machine ambulance, would we have changed the outcome?"
